I’m 24 years old and I am just now going to wear eye shadow FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE.
I DON’T KNOW WTF TO DO WITH EM! I am getting the brushes and stuff that I need for Christmas. Mom agreed after I told her my plan and she was like, “Don’t ask me what to do with it. I’ve never been able to wear eye shadow because it makes me break out,” but she helped me find the colors I was looking for that we could find. Eye allergies run rampant in the family. My brother can’t wear contacts because of the solution, every solution.
My eye colorS are grey, hazel, green, and blue of various shades. I have these colors:
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! Now what? I experiment, but I think I might have to wait until Christmas. Son of a bitch. -.- I hate waiting.
Hey. This is Kat (Dicentra on furc :3). I'd be happy to help you out. I'm pretty good with eye makeup (just love it lol). You do need a good brush set. The brush i use the -most- is the rounded tipped brush (not sure if it has a name lol) because it works so well as a blender. I see you've already got the eyeshadow? But actually if your eyes are hazle I would suggest more earthy tones like tans/browns/mauve/purple. The purples there are nice. I wouldn't go for using the blue yet... it's really hard to pull off blue. What color is your hair? Brunette?
ReplyDeleteI wish I could actually -show- you like irl... but these links might help:

As this picture shows... the darkest shade goes in the crease creating a deeper shadow (defines the eyelid more). I actually sometimes use red eyeshadow in the crease on my eyes. Sounds a bit freaky but if you ever get a hold of a red or reddish-purple eyeshadow and want to try something different... it's kinda neat (it's toned down when blended with surrounding colors). :)
Highlights are added to the brow bone and inner corner. This can be any pale matte (no shimmer) or shimmery shade that is about a shade lighter than your own skin (depending on how dark skinned you are that could be a white or tan or pale pink or pale blue shadow... just try different ones til you find what works best for your coloring).
Be sure to blend all colors nicely into eachother. And remember when it comes to eyeshadow less is more... especially for day time - don't go overboard with the darker colors. For nighttime you can go a little bolder and darker. :)
A few things not to do: Do not apply color all the way to your eyebrows. And eyeshadow underneath the eye can be awesome but dont apply a dark shade all the way to the inner corner of eye - insted only apply a thin line halfway and to outer corner.
Apply eyeliner (if you plan to use it) -after applying eyeshadow - and then next apply mascara in that order. I'd suggest you get an eyelash curler if you do plan to wear mascara. They arent too expensive. There should be directions how to use it on the packaging. After you curl the lashes apply two coats to the top lashes and one light coat to the bottom. You can skip both of these... especially if you have dark lashes, but they can be fun to try.
I'm on 56k... so i cant easily lookup any good videos right now, but you should try youtube becuase there are loads of good tutorials on there for applying makeup. It just takes practice. Don't go with too bold of colors at first since you're new to it... bold/bright colors can make you look clownish if you dont know how to apply them. Just natural earthy colors or paler shades and you should be fine. Just keep practicing at it. If you happen to know anyone irl who wears makeup, maybe you could ask them for tips. Also if you live near a mall... you could go to one of the cosmetic counters in one of the department stores and they'll usually give you tips on what colors look best with your skintone and how to apply things (they'll also try and convince you to buy expensive shit.... just let them believe you are "interested" long enough to get the free tips ;P). Hope i've been helpful!
And good brushes are a must... but if you wanna practice now there's no reason you can't with the little applicaters on that picture. They dont work as well at all... but you can still practice with them. I actually didnt buy a brush set until i was about 20 or so.... i always used the little applicators that come with shadows before that.

My eyes change colors a lot so its not just hazel my eyes are. I have many MANY different shades and many different brushes. I figure I'll pick up more when I can.
ReplyDeleteI found that q-tips work better than the applicators. For Christmas I got a brush set so experimenting should be fun!
Thank you for this! SO SO SO VERY MUCH! <3<3<3
